Sliver of Truth Ridley Jones Lisa Unger Books
After picking up photographs from her local photography shop, Ridley Jones is taken to FBI Headquarters where Agent Dylan Grace shows her a dark shadow in all of her photographs of a man who resembles her father, Max Smiley, who she thought was dead. The search for her "dead" father causes Ridley to face the lies she uncovered in the first in Lisa Unger's Ridley Jones series, Beautiful Lies. To be honest, I didn't like this one. The strong Ridley from Beautiful Lies is weak here. While I enjoy Unger's plot construction, I felt dragged along on this ride. My main motivation for continuing was the desire to know what was going to happen. And now I know. And it is over.Tags : Amazon.com: Sliver of Truth (Ridley Jones) (9780307949684): Lisa Unger: Books,Lisa Unger,Sliver of Truth (Ridley Jones),Vintage CrimeBlack Lizard,0307949680,Crime,Mystery & Detective - Women Sleuths,Thrillers - Suspense,East Village (New York, N.Y.),East Village (New York, N.Y.);Fiction.,Psychological fiction.,Suspense fiction,Women journalists,Women journalists;Fiction.,AMERICAN MYSTERY & SUSPENSE FICTION,Crime & mystery,FICTION Action & Adventure,FICTION Crime,FICTION Mystery & Detective Women Sleuths,FICTION Thrillers Suspense,Fiction,Fiction - Mystery Detective,Fiction-Thriller,FictionAction & Adventure,FictionCrime,FictionLiterary,FictionThrillers - Suspense,General Adult,Literary,MASS MARKET,Monograph Series, any,Psychological fiction,United States,Women journalists,Women journalists;Fiction.,thriller;suspense;mystery;murder;fbi;family;crime;cia;thrillers;thriller books;organized crime;fiction;novels;secrets;lies;adopted;past;family secrets;psychological suspense;mystery books;mystery and thrillers;crime books;suspense books;mystery and suspense;police;murder mystery books;adventure;detective novels;suspense thriller books;mystery novels;mysteries and thrillers;women sleuths;adventure books;survival;betrayal;mysteries;fiction books;cozy mysteries women sleuths series;books fiction, thrillers; thriller books; thriller; suspense; mystery; murder; fbi; family; crime; cia; organized crime; fiction; novels; secrets; lies; adopted; past; family secrets; psychological suspense; mystery books; murder mystery books; detective novels; crime books; mystery and thrillers; mystery and suspense; mystery novels; adventure; suspense thriller books; mysteries and thrillers; women sleuths; fiction books; mysteries; cozy mysteries women sleuths series; suspense books; police; adventure books; survival; betrayal; books fiction,FICTION Action & Adventure,FICTION Crime,FICTION Mystery & Detective Women Sleuths,FICTION Thrillers Suspense,FictionAction & Adventure,FictionCrime,FictionLiterary,FictionThrillers - Suspense,Literary,Fiction - Mystery Detective,American Mystery & Suspense Fiction,Psychological fiction,Fiction,Crime & mystery
Sliver of Truth Ridley Jones Lisa Unger Books Reviews
This book is so convoluted that you may have trouble keeping up with what is going on; I know I did. But I stuck with it, and am so glad I did. The story is beyond dark, beyond creepy. All the loose ends will not come together In a satisfying ending. But it is one amazing story, and I am glad I read it. What a ride!
Although this book could stand on its own, it is much better if you read Beautiful Lies, the first of the two, before this one.
Riley has gone through a lot after finding out about Project Rescue and it is having an effect on both her and her relationships, particularly with her parents and Jake, someone she believes is a Project Rescue baby. But not all things are what they seem, and the "ghost" of her Uncle Max puts her in danger. The revelations that come out at the end are somewhat surprising, and you really start to feel for poor Riley and also wonder who she can trust and who she cannot.
I thoroughly enjoyed Beautiful Lies and was equally enthralled with Sliver of Truth. It held my attention from start to finish, and gave me a couple of surprises too. There are a few things that I found "bothersome" but not enough to take away from the suspense and excitement of the plot and what Riley goes through. I do like the way Lisa Unger writes her characters, especially Riley.
Again, read Beautiful Lies first as although certain things are "explained" in Sliver, it is better understood with the first book read
I really enjoyed this, though there were a few things that really bugged me. Like the way the author uses the word crumble in place of the word crumple. She does this in Beautiful Lies, too. Also don't understand why Ridley just accepts that Max is her father with no evidence other than him saying so. Someone else claimed to be her father, too, and there was no reason for her or the readers to think he wasn't. Between that and the other unanswered questions from the first book, I could've been a lot more satisfied with this book. That being said, it was a good read once it got going, though I don't know if I'd recommend buying it at full price.
This is the follow-up to Lisa Unger's first novel, Beautiful Lies. I absolutely loved Beautiful Lies. It was fast-paced, the plot was intriguing, the ending was good and the characters were interesting, relatable and complex. This book was good but not quite as good as the first one. The plot sort of explodes onward from where it left off in Beautiful Lies and becomes a little bit unruly. Also, the book was a little heavy on the foreshadowing of future plot points. That said, it was very enjoyable to read and I zipped through it very quickly. I just picked up her third book, Black Out, which is not a continuation of the first two, and am looking forward to reading it.
Started out slow and I was a touch disappointed at first; then it started to roll and I realized that at every twist and turn, every scene change, every page, I had no clue what had been coming and where the story was headed from there. Excellence to the max (no pun intended!)
It started out alright, but became a little stale with Ridley being kidnapped several times. It also got confusing trying to tell the good guys from the bad. I will read her again.
Honestly. I've decided I'm not going to live long enough to ever again finish a book this poorly written. The plot is murky, nothing but a long, extended chase scene. Perhaps the author thinks it will be a made-for-tv movie, and envisioned it translating nicesly to screen. The characters are embarassingly one-dimensional. The protagonist is hilarious in her over-wrought telling of her story, although I'm sure that is unintentional. The character "Max" whose "finding" supposedly drives the plot, is confusing and, like the rest of the story, muddled. I'm a big fan of gratuitous sex and vilolence, but the deaths in the book were simply unexplainable. The writing is riddled with the worst sort of cliches. Please save your energy. Pick something else.
