I found this back in my high school days, in hard cover, through one of my book clubs. I thoroughly enjoyed it back then, as it combined my love of the Titanic, with my interest in war, and a sprinkling of H.G. Wells to top it all off. I knew it would enjoy a spot on my Kindle as well.

A great example of alternative history, if you enjoy that sort of genre. Elleander has the chance to go back and change the past, and she does so. Her descendants find out she did this; that's pretty much the premise of the novel...that, and how history has a nasty tendency of repeating itself.

Good stuff, well worth your time.

I just read this book for the 4th time, so once per decade. In 10 years I can forget all the details and enjoy it again as much as the first time, one book I will never discard. The characters really come alive and the storyline will keep you engrossed from page 1 to the very end. Turns and twists all the way through that are always so unexpected. I need to check and see what else this author has written =)
i love this book so much i named my youngest daughter eliander. i have 2 copies in hardcover, bought this to give to a friend. it is better than i remember, a great example of alternative history.
This is one of my all time favorite books in a lifetime of reading. The story line is highly creative. The characters are well drawn. All in all, a very engaging, entertaining read.

A very interesting story of time travel and alternate history that turns out to be a very personal story for the heroine. The primary reason that I didn't give it a full five stars was that the timeline doesn't really add up quite right.
I picked up this book sort of on a whim (I read a short synopsis in the Ultimate Guide to Science Fiction) and am glad that I did. The basic premise of the book is alternate history which shifts between timelines in which World War II occurred and did not occur. To give away anything else about the story may spoil some of the surprises as the book has mystery aspect to it.

I will mention that the book does not focus on the scientific and paradox aspect of time travel and alternate history. What makes the book so good in my opinion is the characterization and the romance/love story aspect. The decisions that are made on whether to change history have a profound impact on all characters involved that is really moving and emotional.
I read and loved this book when it was first published and, rather unusually for me, I have never reread it. I have frequently recommended it to others -- pretty much whenever somebody I'm speaking with is looking for alternate history or time travel books, but never revisited it myself.

With that setup, it wouldn't be surprising to find that the book didn't hold up, would it? Wrong! It was even better than I remembered. In part, this was because I'm older and smarter than the Tammy-In-Her-'20s who first read it -- I caught a lot more of the alternative history subtleties that Yulsman peppered the book with. But mostly, it's just a really, really fast paced and entertaining read!
